My Dad was a "dirt tracker", and we were constantly tinkering with race cars, our own cars, cars we bought to resell, and cars we were working on for friends and family. He always referred to us as Shade Tree Mechanics. The term has always stuck in my mind and conjures some fun memories from my childhood. We live in a different world today, but the concept is the same - I know there are a lot of Shade Tree Mechanics out there doing the same things we used to do when I was a kid.
